Coronel is a Grand Master in lacquer ware who helped revive the use of gold leaf in this craft. In 2007, he earned the National Prize for Arts and Sciencesin Mexico. His work has been exhibited in Mexico and the United States. He was commissioned to make two pieces as gifts for Queen Elizabeth II and Pope John Paul II.
